Thread: I am Legend 2 confirmed

It's the year 2012, after all. Mayan calendar and all that. How else can one explain that I Am Legend 2 is happening?

Deadline reports that Warner Bros. has signed on Akiva Goldsman and Overbrook Entertainment to make a follow-up to the 2007 Will Smith starrer about the end of the world. Goldsman was a writer and producer on the original.

"The intention is for Will Smith to reprise his role as scientist Robert Neville, who was the last man on earth doing battle with a mutated mob in New York City after an apocalyptic man-made virus wiped out the population," says the site. "A deal was made with Arash Amel to write the script. The film is not being called a prequel, which had been rumored for the past few years."

What's odd here -- spoilers for a five-year-old movie! -- is that Neville died in the first film. So if it's not a prequel, how is he coming back? (Alternate DVD ending notwithstanding.)

YES!!! This was a great movie, and will smith was amazing in it, I really hope that this news is real, because I am defiantly going to see this. Do you know anything about the story line <---- @RawrItsKaze !!

WILL SMITH obviously has a bad case of franchise fever. As if he hadn't got enough in the pipeline with two sequels to Independence Day and a follow-up to his superhero movie Hancock, he's apparently signed a deal to bring us I Am Legend 2.

There has been chatter about somehow continuing I Am Legend ever since the original made $585million at the global box office.

Hollywood can't let a good thing go, even if Smith's character Robert Neville blew himself up at the end of the first film.

At one point the idea was for a prequel, then that was scrapped for a sequel to be scripted by Game of Thrones co-creator D.B. Weiss.

But Deadline says Warner Bros has now struck a deal with Smith's company Overbrook Entertainment and producer Akiva Goldsman to make another film that "is not being called a prequel." Screenwriting newcomer Arash Amel has been appointed on script duties.

As mentioned above, Smith also has an idea in mind for another Hancock adventure, providing everyone involved can align their schedules and make it happen. And late last year Roland Emmerich and writer-producer partner Dean Devlin were concocting two sequels to Independence Day, to be shot back to back - subject to resolving a financial stalemate over Smith's demand for a $50million paycheck.

Long story short, I catch my ex boyfriend with "I am Legend 1" movie tickets in his pocket after telling me he was at work, but didnt get home until 5am. We ended up fist fighting && he took a knife and cut my hair off. Sooooo I HAVE NO DESIRE to see this movie what so every. Never seen the first one, why see the second one.

the first movie was great! ill be looking forward to this.
