I just wanted to see what people's reactions were about Destiny the new MMO coming out for PS3, PS4, 360, and X-Box One. I personally think this game is going be be awesome. Activision and bungie together is a good mix and bungie really is the lead company on it. The game looks really polished so far and has been in development for a while. My first question is, how many people are planning on getting this game as of now? Are you skeptical and waiting for more details? Or do you think the game just won't be all that great? Also, if you do plan on getting it, for what system. As its not coming out til 2014, I'm planning to get it for the PS4. Finally, does anyone think this game could make it into this clan as we have thought about doing for other MMOs (Elder Scrolls Online)? Over the past few years MMO's have gained much popularity especially with World of Warcraft (WOW). Though I have not played myself, I've become interested as The Elder Scrolls Online (ESO) is hopefully going to hit the shelves later this year.
As I was scanning different articles, I came across one that says the subscription fee is almost at an end. He sites Star Wars: The Old Republic as one game that does not do well right now. Last year it came out and had a fantastic introduction with 1.7 million subscribers. After just one year that number dwindled to 1.3 million. This was a huge loss and they are seeing that monthly fees just aren't working anymore.
There was a suggestion that ESO will start off with a monthly fee but will turn over to free-to-play in the near future after its release. I was wondering if anyone has heard anything similar or opinions on what you think should happen to MMO's in the near future. Should they keep the subscriptions or get rid of them? I personally think the fan-base will be much larger with no subscriptions which will keep the players coming and buying future expansions.
